This was a weekend of investments: personal, business, and self.
Boat show
Jan and I went to the Seattle Boat Show on Saturday, enjoying an hour-long ferry ride in bright sunshine to get to Seattle. We haven’t had much sun the past month of so, and we both sat basking in it, just soaking it up.
While there, we visited with the owner of International Marine, the company who makes West Wight Potter sailboats in the United States. I snapped a few photos of the boats and another Potter owner collected some interior views.
We enjoyed a quiet lunch at Elysian Fields with four other Potter sailors.
Crypt
Instead of returning on the ferry, I suggested we drive south down Interstate 5 and swing through Jan’s old neighborhood. Instead of making a beeline to her childhood home, we detoured to the cemetery to visit her mother’s crypt.
January 29th will mark the 26th anniversary of her mother’s passing from a valiant fight against breast cancer. We both miss her, and I know Jan appreciated the side trip.
Kingston
On Sunday I dropped a daughter at the Kingston ferry so she could visit a friend in Edmonds, probably for several days. I know she appreciated the three hours I spent driving, and we had a nice time chatting in the car on the way to Kingston.
Web development
In between these trips, I finished a conceptual proposal for one client, and continued work on a concept for another client.
While I was at it, I spent some time reviewing web logs and updating WordPress plugins on a handful of websites. If that wasn’t enough, I continued my reading of Twyla Tharp’s The Creative Habit, which I am finding enjoyable and enlightening.
New biz
At the end of the weekend, I moved forward on something I have been noodling about for the last couple of years: I applied for a state UBI number and a federal EIN for my technology consulting work.
So this weekend was a series of deposits in emotional bank accounts, some investments in business projects, and an investment in myself. Busy? Yes. Fulfilling? Very much so.
